Healthy Schools Support Services

We support schools’ work in the four themes of the National Healthy School Programme:

  • Personal, social and health education (including sex and relationship education and drug education)
  • Healthy eating (including increasing cooking skills and staff’s confidence to work with parents)
  • Physical activity (particularly around staff’s confidence in working with parents and physical activity outside of PE)
  • Emotional health and wellbeing

We can work with schools in a number of different ways:

  • Advice and guidance for headteachers, senior leaders and subject leaders
  • Staff training
  • Curriculum guidance
  • In-class support for individual teachers
  • Subject reviews

We also have whole school primary school curriculum resources available to purchase for Drug, Alcohol and Tobacco Education and Sex and Relationship Education, for more information download our brochures.

The Healthy Schools team is also supporting schools in the area of education for Citizenship

This can help schools to achieve or maintain ‘National Healthy School Status’ or to work within the enhancement model for healthy schools. We work very successfully with schools in this way; we have helped over 97% of Islington schools to gain National Healthy School Status and have an effective programme of support and guidance for schools working within the healthy schools enhancement model.
