Cardfields Environmental Studies Centre

Enjoying and achieving outside the classroom..

Cardfields is a large Victorian country house, built at the turn of the 19th/20th century, which is located in a peaceful setting close to the River Chelmer, in Essex.  Cardfields is now a residential centre, and provides courses and cross curricular activities that support and enhance the national curriculum, in a safe and caring environment.

• Cardfields Centre is well placed and well resourced to teach curriculum subjects, especially for KS1, KS2 science, geography, sports and art activities.
• Staff at Cardfields ensure that all formal and informal activities pormote learning through discovery, investigation and experience for every student.
• Cardfields provides a wide range of readily available resources and equipment for a varierty of internal and external activites.
• All courses at Cardfields are planned in partnership between our own qualified teacher and member(s) staff from the school making the visit, making this a simple process, tailored to the needs of each individual visit.
• Cardfields offers lesson / activity plans and follow-up ideas for every programmed activity.
• All activities at Cardfields are well structured and have full risk assessments.
• At Cardfields, staff have created a warm and friendly environment, with a high standard of catering and accommodation.

In April 2010 the centre was awarded the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge.

Cardfields is pleased to welcome students from primary and secondary schools, as well as community groups and private hire.  Conference facilities are available for all groups including training, seminars and meetings.

At Cardfields we undertake:

• Residential visits with full board for term time school journeys, these may be full or half  week visits.
• Weekend visits with full board for school groups.
• Semi–catered weekend visits for training groups.
  Self–catered and self-managed visits during weekends and holiday periods for schools, Play and Youth service and other organised community groups.
• Day visits for school groups.
• Residential and Day visit conference facilities – fully catered.
