Our contract with the London Borough of Islington

Contracted to deliver education support services until at least April 2013, Cambridge Education @ Islington is accountable to Islington Council for its performance.

The contract with Islington sets out a range of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) which are monitored on a termly and annual basis. These KPIs include pupil performance results, both at the end of Key Stage 2 and at GCSE, plus targets related to school exclusions, school attendance, statutory duties, strategic plans and policies, and surveys and customer feedback.

External validation of the quality of our work is important to us. Not only, in 2002, did Cambridge Education @ Islington become the first local education authority (or quasi authority) to earn Charter Mark (UK Government's national standard for excellence in customer service) accreditation, but other national agencies have also recognised our efforts to work in partnership with others in order to improve the quality of the educational offer to the pupils of Islington’s schools.

In 2002, Cambridge Education @ Islington become the first local education authority (or quasi authority) to earn Charter Mark (UK Government's national standard for excellence in customer service) accreditation.

Ofsted’s 2008 Annual Performance Assessment (APA) of Children’s Services in Islington stated that ‘the partnership between the council and Cambridge Education, who provide most education services, is highly developed and effective.’

And under the ‘Enjoy and Achieve’ criteria, the APA reported on ‘highly effective, inventive and carefully targeted school improvement service which has schools’ confidence, and balances short and long term development needs very well’ and noted that there had been ‘continuing and notable improvement in school standards and achievement over several years’

The Ofsted annual rating of Children’s Services in 2009 reported that, in Islington, “a higher than average proportion of nursery, primary, secondary and special schools
and pupil referral units is good or outstanding” and that “no schools are in Ofsted categories of concern.”
